## China Natural Gas Market Semi-Annual in-Depth Report 2026
Annual Report Overview
In the first half of 2026, China's natural gas market performed weakly. On the supply side, the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and geopolitical tensions have heightened risks to international LNG supplies, keeping global gas prices at elevated levels for a time, which has weighed on China's LNG Import volume YoY, resulting in a year-on-year decline in domestic natural gas supply. On the demand side, overall temperatures during the domestic heating season were relatively high, providing insufficient support for city gas demand; coupled with temporary price hikes that dampened operating rates at some domestic natural gas end-use facilities, industrial and chemical demand also remained subdued. Only transportation gas benefited from Rigid demand supported by substitution effects, leading to a slowdown in China's natural gas consumption growth in the first half of 2026. Entering the second half of 2026, although geopolitical uncertainties persist, domestically produced gas is expected to bolster supply growth, partially offsetting the import shortfall. While the potential for additional consumption remains constrained by supply, overall demand may show a recovery compared to the first half, suggesting an improvement in the domestic natural gas supply-demand balance. As 2026 marks the inaugural year of the 15th Five-Year Plan, under conditions of tightening domestic gas supply, China's natural gas market faces a series of challenges, including meeting supply-guarantee targets, coping with the impact of alternative energy sources, and adapting to policy shifts. All segments of the industry chain must coordinate their efforts, closely monitor market trends, continue diversifying the supply mix, and enhance technological capabilities to address future market developments. With a solid data foundation and precise forecasting models, SCI helps you seize competitive advantages and achieve outstanding results.
Content Value
(1) Analyze the international supply-demand landscape and the impact of geopolitical factors on the domestic market, revealing the ripple effects of import costs on the supply side.
(2) Assess how reduced import volumes driving up gas prices affect end-use sectors such as industry and transportation, along with shifts in the natural gas consumption structure.
(3) Based on market supply-demand forecasts, leverage the price spread between pipeline gas and LNG to identify profit opportunities, providing indicators for anticipating future trends.
